The National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) has approved the following continuing education courses for board-certified health and wellness coaches. Choose from an 8-week live, virtual course or choose from multiple on-demand courses, fully online.

The first evidence-based program to integrate mindfulness practice with training in the VIA Classification of character strengths. This program will increase self-awareness and attention to the present moment, while harnessing the positive qualities that help you flourish. Helpful for both coach well-being and coaching from a strengths-perspective.

(Available December 2024) - A review of the new field of positive health, which integrates positive psychology and lifestyle medicine. This course will introduce positive health theory & flourishing models, as well as effective evidence-based positive psychology interventions that can be prescribed for patients/clients in each specific lifestyle medicine pillar.
(Available December 2024) - A review of validated assessments for each pillar of lifestyle medicine, as well as available comprehensive lifestyle medicine assessments. Refresh your knowledge of recommended anthropometric measures and the most common laboratory tests used in monitoring of chronic diseases and risk factors.
(Available January 2025) - A review of the role of religion and spirituality (R/S) in mental and physical health. This is increasingly being recognized as a social determinant of health (SDOH) for those individuals who find meaning/purpose in R/S. This course will introduce whole health models & the theoretical underpinnings of R/S in health, as well as an overview of taking a spiritual history, validated R/S assessments, & the role of R/S in wellness practice.
(Available February 2025) - A review of both normal physiology and the pathophysiology of the most common chronic diseases, as well as foundational processes such as inflammation & immune function. Learn about the effect of lifestyle behaviors on the pathophysiology of chronic disease and how to help others understand these effects.
